Background

Dr. Martin Gassler, MJur (Oxford), has been a partner at SAXINGER's Vienna office since May 2025. After his admission to the bar in 2022, he initially worked for a renowned Austrian law firm in competition law in Vienna and also completed his legal training there. Before that, he worked at a renowned Austrian law firm in Brussels, also focusing on competition law.

Dr. Martin Gassler studied law as well as management and economics at the University of Innsbruck. After completing a master’s degree at the University of Oxford (MJur), he obtained his doctorate at the University of Vienna. He also completed specialized postgraduate courses at the Brussels School of Competition (EU Competition Law) and at King's College London (Economics for Competition Law).

Expertise

Dr. Martin Gassler has many years of experience providing comprehensive advice on Austrian and European competition law, particularly in the areas of merger control, cartel and abuse of dominance proceedings, competition law aspects in distribution agreements, and compliance, including complex cross-border matters. His expertise also extends to representing clients in competition damages actions and advising on foreign investment control (FDI).

Alongside his legal practice, Dr. Gassler is an external lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna) at the Institute for Competition Law and Digitalization. He is also a case reporter for Oxford Competition Law (Oxford University Press) and editor as well as author of numerous publications, including the book Information Exchange Between Competitors in EU Competition Law (Wolters Kluwer) and the KODEX Green Compliance (LexisNexis).
